Only to trap them into busting over 60 seconds?
COGZ
By designer and artist Wez' Lamont
COGZ is an abstract tile placement game. COGZ tiles come in 4 different colours and you'll want to score points in all those colours to win. On your turn you remove a tile from the tile grid in the center of the table and replace it with one of your own. You'll try to make the tile you lay extend a path of COGZ or even make a "loop" of COGZ. You'll score points depending on the length of the trail you make. You always have 3 tiles in your hand to choose from and the tile you just removed will be part of your hand next turn. So think hard before picking up a tile that may be hard to place later in the game.
The game is easy to learn. Does not need a large table and can be played by pretty much anybody. If you like the strategy of chess or just solving puzzles, this would be a great game for you. Wez has his own site for COGZ with additional rules and things to tweak your play. Click here for that.
Banishment
By designers Kimberley Larking and Jonathan Durnford
Banishment is a semi-cooperative card game. One player takes on the role of a demon. The rest of the players become exorcists trying to banish it. They have 10 turns to make this happen or the demon will prevail. On their turn the exorcist players may play a card for the card's action. Or add a card to one of the rituals in play bringing it closer to completion. If all the rituals are completed by the 10th turn, the demon is banished.. Obviously the demon player is trying to mess all this up on their turn.
Like all Partymeeple games this is easy to learn, comes in a small box and would play well in a cafe or pub. Don't let the demons mess with your coffee. Kimberly and Jonathan have their own site where you can buy this game directly from them. Click here for that.
Castle Poker
By designer Noisy Andrew
In Castle Poker players are trying to be the first to complete their castle. They do this by building a 5 card poker hand and then betting stones from their supply that their hand is the best. If they have the best hand and have bid the most stones, they may add to their walls. But beware, if your hand is the lowest valued one. You'll lose your bid. Special cards like The Bishop, a Trebuchet, extra supplies and a Messenger may also change your plans.
The cards in this game include a specially medieval themed 52 card deck that you can play any card game you'd use a standard deck of cards for. Or you could just play Castle Poker.
Noisy Andrew also publishes games that are free to print and play. These games are generally easy to make and have a single page of rules. So if you'd like to go to the Print n Play section of the partymeeple web site and get a free "make it your self game",
